Introduction To Agricultural Mechanization Technology Department



The Department of Agricultural Mechanization Technology was established in September 1994 by the late Mr. Agbemafle who was then a tutor at Ho Technical Institute; in Agriculutrual Mechanization Department with one master, the late Mr Seth Azumah who helped him in teaching. The initial enrolment of students was 26. Unfortunately, Mr. Agbemafle died after serving two years in the Institute.
The study of Agricultural Mechanization Technology in Technical and Vocational Institutes is intended to provide young persons with the requisite skills and knowledge that would make them innovative and adaptive and prepare them for the world of work and higher education. It also makes agriculture attractive and as a business to the youth in our catchment areas.
OBJECTIVES & ACHIEVEMENT
OBJECTIVES
The main objectives of the department includes:
- study, maintenance and repairs of tractors.
- study maintenance and repairs of machineries and implements.
- Study crops and animal husbandry
- Machining of engineering components
- Production of agricultural machines, tools and equipment
- Driving and Operating of tractor and implements
ACHIEVEMENTS
- Adjuged the regional best second Cycle farming institution in volta Region in such areas as maize, vegetable and livestock (pig) production.
- Construction of jab planter for sowing of maize and cassava press for extracting of juice from dough
- Accusation of driving license to the students at the end of program as tractor operators from DVLA
- Rehabilitation of Agricultural Mechanization workshop and a classroom

Training learners for the 21st century in Agricultural Mechanization Technology in Kpando Technical Institute involves using a dynamic curriculum that moves beyond traditional theory to embrace hands-on, technology-driven competencies. This involves equipping students with practical skills in operating, maintaining, and managing advanced machinery while also instilling a strong foundation in sustainable practices and renewable energy applications. Crucially, this training must be delivered through industry partnerships, providing real-world experience on modern farms and in agro-processing facilities, thereby ensuring graduates are not just job seekers but innovative problem-solvers and entrepreneurs ready to propel Ghana’s agri-food sector into a new era of productivity and resilience.
