The start of a new academic year is always a time of immense potential and renewed energy. It is a privilege to welcome you back to a department dedicated to the innovative and sustainable craft of wood construction—a field that sits at the exciting intersection of traditional artistry, cutting-edge engineering, and environmental stewardship. I am continually inspired by the collective talent and passion within our community, and I look forward to seeing the creativity and dedication you will all bring to our workshops, studios, and classrooms.
This year promises to be one of significant growth and achievement. We are committed to providing you with a world-class education that combines rigorous theoretical knowledge with hands-on, practical experience. Our focus remains on fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment where you can develop the skills necessary to become the next generation of leaders, craftspeople, and innovators in the timber industry. I encourage each of you to actively engage, challenge yourselves, and take full advantage of the resources and expertise available within our department. Let’s work together to build upon our successes, push the boundaries of what is possible with wood, and make this a truly impactful and memorable year.
Brief History of Wood Construction Department
Wood Construction Technology, formally known as Carpentry and Joinery, is one of the earliest courses introduced in the institute since the inception of the school in 1957.
The course compromises two aspects of woodwork: the Carpentry aspect and the joinery work. The carpentry work deals with rough woodwork or works that are done while the timber is rough or not planed such as roof work, formwork of all kinds, shorings,
We Train Learners With Contemporary skills for the industry.
We train skilled workers for wood construction technology, this requires a dynamic blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern innovation, ensuring that learners are equipped to meet the evolving demands of sustainable building practices.
By combining hands-on apprenticeships with advanced technical education, we foster workers who can interpret architectural plans, apply precision in fabrication, and adapt to emerging technologies such as prefabrication and modular construction.
